Ballet

Ballet, one of the most classical and artistic forms of dance, has a rich history. It first emerged during the Italian renaissance in the 15th century, before France and Russia developed the techniques further. Additionally, the word “ballet” itself a french word derived from the Italian word “balletto,” which means “to dance.”

 At Ponsonby School of Dance, we follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus in our ballet classes, as well as open ballet classes.

Pre School Ballet, Pre Primary Ballet and Primary Ballet only need to attend ONE class per week.

Grade 1 Ballet, Grade 2 Ballet, Grade 3 Ballet, Grade 4 Ballet and Grade 5 Ballet need to attend TWO classes per week.

Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate Ballet, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 Ballet and Advanced 2 Ballet need to attend THREE classes per week.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of interpretive dance that embraces innovation, blending techniques from various genres, including classical ballet, jazz, modern dance and lyrical dance.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, we offer the Asia Pacific Dance Association Lucidity Contemporary syllabus.

All Contemporary Levels only need to attend ONE class per week.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is a type of performance dance that is combined with singing, dancing and acting. It is often seen in musicals, and is used to tell a story and portray a character. Dance is used in musicals or Broadway shows to add excitement and energy to a story.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, we follow the Asia Pacific Dance Association Encore Theatre Dance syllabus in our Musical Theatre classes.

All Musical Theatre Levels only need to attend ONE class per week.

Musical Theatre is a fantastic genre to do alongside your Jazz class.

Competition Teams

Our competition dancers participate in local and national competitions and events throughout the year. Competitions help dancers to develop their performance and professionalism skills.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, our competition teams are selected and/or auditioned throughout the year.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a form of dance that combines both African and European dance styles. This high-energy dance has a liveliness that sets it apart from traditional dance forms.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, we offer the Asia Pacific Dance Association Jazzaddict Syllabus, as well as Open Jazz classes.

Primary Jazz 1, Primary Jazz 2 Junior Jazz 1, Junior Jazz 2, Junior Jazz 3, Elementary Jazz 1 and Elementary Jazz 2 only need to attend ONE class per week.

Elementary Jazz 3, Intermediate Jazz 1, Intermediate Jazz 2, Intermediate Jazz 3, Advanced Jazz 1 and Advanced Jazz 2 need to attend TWO classes per week.

We offer a Senior Open Class for dancers 15 years and over.

Hip Hop

Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It is influenced by a wide range of styles that were created in the 1970's and made popular by dance crews in the united states.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, we follow the Asia Pacific Dance Association Urban Ignition syllabus, as well as open hip hop classes.

All Hip Hop Levels only need to attend ONE class per week

Acro

Acro dance is a style that combines the techniques of classical dance with acrobatic movements. This form of dance is very athletic and has unique choreography to incorporate gymnastic-like elements into dance.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, our Acro classes focus on flexibility and strength work, as well as learning new tricks to add into routines.

Our PSOD Mini’s

Dance classes for pre-schoolers and toddlers are the perfect introduction to the amazing art of dance. Music and dance is also a huge benefit to early development.

At Ponsonby School of Dance, we have a range of classes available for our littlest of dancers.
